Love is the greatest level one can reach in life. This is not a fleeting infatuation, but a pure, true, and unconditional kind of LOVE. However, this deep kind of love comes with a dual nature; one must be able to give love freely as well as one is able to accept it.
In order to accept love, one must have the confidence to know that you are worthy to receive it. One can constantly strive to achieve greatness, to do better, and to evolve throughout the journey of life. However, at this moment, YOU are great just as you are. YOU are an amazing person worthy of being loved. Having the confidence to recognize your self worth, to know that you deserve a love that works with you and sacrifices for you, is what allows you to move past infatuation into a deeper kind of love.
In order to give love, you must be selfless enough to know that the world does not completely revolve around you and your problems. I know that this might be “tough love”, but some people never fully take this lesson to heart. Selflessness is a choice to act in love; it is giving the gifts of time, patience, and empathy away from yourself and to someone else. You must be brave enough to give those parts of yourself to someone else, without expecting it to be returned back. Someone else might need love today. Having the confidence to know that you will be ok, and the pureness of heart to give what you can without any return, is the definition of selflessness.
Sometimes, the balance between self worth and selflessness can be tricky; it is easy to tip the scale in one direction or another. Yet, this balance is crucial not only in terms of love, but in terms of your overall happiness, sanity and fulfillment of life as well.
We learn the traits of self worth and selflessness early on in our lives in cultivating our relationship with God. God loves us so much that he sent Jesus his only son, and sent him to make the ultimate sacrifice on the cross. There is no greater love than that of God. If we respond with a fervent confidence that God’s love is reliable, resilient, and redeemable that we will never be denied the power that Jesus performs and perfects. He is the agent of possibility and change. He is the avenue of everlasting hope, belief, and strength. He is understanding in the midst of doubt. He is the rhythm when tension arises; he is the measure and treasure of undeniable truth. He is the gift that keeps on giving; he is unconditional LOVE incarnate. If we can accept and give love to the Lord, then we can learn to love others in the same way. Let God’s Light, Love, Laughter, and Life be filled in you without regrets, for the Lord will always love you.
Lord, I thank you for being so good to me. I thank You for protecting me, for keeping me safe, for thinking of me and having me in thought so that your will and way shall be done. No greater love, no greater life is who I strive to be and live. So greater love, come forth. I give thanks to God’s love.
