Back in the day, there was a song by the Commodores called “Just to Be Close to You”. The lead singer cries his heart out, feeling as though he has no direction and no one to love or love him. That is until this woman came into his life. And just to be close to her made him feel so good. He proclaims is undying love, saying “take my Hand and we will live in love forever.”
This song, along with many other pop songs, brings us back to a place where our heart was filled with undying love. The kind of love where nothing could separate us from that feeling… well at least until something bad happened and changed our mood completely. When that person eventually got on your nerves, then you call it quits. That’s not the type of love that I am talking about; that is not REAL love. Love that changes with the weather, Play Love, Puppy Love, Lust, or Love for Something Else, you can call it many things. All are passionate but temporary infatuations. But Real or True Love is something much deeper than fleeting feelings, it is a connection on a spiritual level, one that shakes us to our core.
What is TRUE love then? Is the routine phrase that we say when we hang up the phone? We say, “I love you.” when we leave our loved ones each day for work or send our children off to school. Or when we know that we’ve done wrong the first thing we say is: “Baby you know that I love you right?” Love, Love, Love is the constant word that we hear so frequently day in and day out, yet do we really understand the dynamics involved in what True Love is all about?
Well, today I’m here today to introduce you to your True Love. You think you got true love, but I want to hook you up with a man that will love you better than you could ever be loved. His name is Jesus Christ; His mother’s name was Mary and his father’s name Joseph. He didn’t ride in a fine car or dress in fine clothing; he was a poor man. He came from the bloodline of David, healed the sick, fed the poor, and performed miracle after miracle. Jesus Christ is True Love. GOD is True Love.
For God so Loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
A True Love will sacrifice for you, True Love will always provide for you, and True Love will weather through any storm. Your True Love won’t walk out on you, and will not hold a grudge or keep account of your wrongdoings. For Jesus tells you that he will not forsake you and bless you in-spite of your wrong doings. True Love is not a fleeting feeling or emotion, but a continuing commitment. Jesus Christ showed his true love when he made the ultimate commitment: sacrificing his life on the Cross.
It was TRUE love when they nailed his hands on the cross,
It was TRUE loved when they pierced him in his side,
It was TRUE love when they nailed his feet,
It was TRUE love when they put a crown of thorns upon his head,
It was TRUE love when he never said a mumbling word or fought back,
It was love when he told John, “Behold thy mother”,
It was TRUE love when Jesus said “It is finished”,
It was TRUE love when he said “Into thy hands I commend my spirit…”
The bible tells us in John 15:13 “There was no greater love than this than to lay down his life for his friends”. Jesus Christ’s love for us is REAL love. It’s TRUE Love. And it’s the kind of love that you want and need in all aspects of life.
So today I charge you to know that you don’t have to go searching for TRUE love in all the wrong places. DO not search for a feeling or emotion; those will eventually dissipate and go away. Know that you do not have to search for love in that bottle, pick-it tickets or scratch offs, in drinks and other vices, or in that boy that is not giving you the time of day. When you say you love someone, make sure you truly mean it. Find Jesus, Look for Jesus, Get to Know Jesus, and you will discover TRUE Love. The fulfillment and life He gives will satisfy all every need, and you will learn to never settle for less than what He gives. Take the hand of Jesus and follow His lead, for there is no greater love that that of Jesus Christ.
