There’s an infamous song that says,”If it had not been for the lord on my side, tell me where I would be?” …. Probably not in a good position. We find ourselves frequently getting into situations through our own negligent decisions and actions, and then expecting God to bail us out. God does forgive us in spite of our choices and in the most important situations, He protects us from harm. However, God does not bail us out of every situation. Instead, He chooses moments for our personal growth and development, specific events for us to learn from and ultimately overcome.
Many homeowners purchase alarm systems, such as ADT or Sloman Shield, to protect their homes and most prized possessions. God works in a similar way; through your relationship with Him, God helps you create your own personal, spiritual security system. Your developing and continuing Faith routinely upgrades this security system, so that you can weather any of life’s challenges and block out all the negative influences coming your way. However, with the intelligence of computer savvy thieves and hackers, there is no guarantee that your security system is always protected. Like the machine, sometimes bad people (the thieves) or bad situations break through the barriers created. When these obstacles break through, God sets off an alarm system through our intuition. We KNOW when something bad is happening; that dread and fear we feel is our divinely created system pushing us into survival mode. We are naturally geared to work towards fixing the problems ahead of us.
“If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 4:11
You might be thinking: If bad things are going to break through anyways, WHY have a security system at all? That’s a great question! When a break in does happen, usually a security system can tell you from what door or window the break in occurred. The faith that you cultivate with God similarly highlights your personal weaknesses, finding the blindspots in the security system that you create with Him. You may be attracted to the same, wrong group or friends, you may have developed an unhealthy dependency to a lover, or you might approach a certain situation with a family member the wrong way because of a previous hostile encounter. Those weak spots in your ego are highlighted through the difficult obstacles and experiences you encounter. You can choose to grow from the pain, trauma, or grief, strengthening and adding a firewall to your security system, or you can choose to reject it, leaving your blind spot open and vulnerable to new threats.
Thanks be to God, for we establish our own homeland security in Jesus Christ, who always provides for us. It is important to note that God will never give you anything that you truly cannot handle. Know, believe, and trust that when panic arises, when impossible setbacks or troubles come, you will be fully shielded by the blood of Jesus. Be confident in the fact that His amazing grace, mercy, and love will guarantee his priceless protection free of charge in your time of need. For everything else, know for a fact that you can handle it. God has complete faith in your relationship with Him. Your security system has capabilities to rise above the challenges presented to you. Grow with Him, learn from your personal weak spots, and build towards an even stronger and more ever present Faith to guide you on your journey.
